Kitty Pi

I've been working on a cat bed for my cats, George and Peaches. They love laying around in baskets but I wanted to give them something warm and soft to lay on. I had found a pattern from Ravelry called Kitty Pi it is written by by Wendy D. Johnson from Wendy Knits. You can get the pattern for free at her website http://media.wendyknits.net/knit/kittybed.htm.

Now this project is a felted one, and I have never felted before. I had gotten a 100% wool sweater from a thrift store find and unraveled it. I thought this would be perfect to use. Now, I should have done a test swatch first. I thought I could forgo it as this wasn't a wearable and it said you could felt it down to the size you want. Very bad thought on my part. There are many reasons to knit a test swatch and one of them is to see how the material washes or felts up. I got some felting action after 40 min in the washing machine but still could see lots of stitch definition and it really didn't stand up.

I got creative when I finished and stitched into one of the cats baskets. My only problem now, is they both fight over who gets to lay in it. I'm now going to make another one, but this time I went to my LYS and asked the owner for help.

The new bed will have to wait till I finish that second sock. I'm getting close, I've made myself work a bit a day on it, so it wouldn't languish.
